loose ends

I forgot to show you the loot I came away with from QuiltCon!
It's so nice to see fabrics in real life sometimes (as opposed to ordering online all the time). I knew I would want to splurge on some goodies so it's all good but people, I seriously need to go on a fabric diet! I'm really going to try to restrain myself for a while (until the new Heather Ross collection comes out, that I will be buying!).

Those solids on the right are Oakshot Cottons, so gorgeous in real life! And it seemed to me that Architextures was the big "thing" at QuiltCon....it was EVERYWHERE (at EVERY shop booth and in tons of the quilts). It's a cool collection for sure but it makes me feel like part of the crowd. I'm fine with that though. :)

#20 Churn Dash for my Farmer's Wife Sampler. Plugging away.

Lastly, a sneak peek of my finished feather/improv quilt that I have yet to come up with a good name for. I need to get some better pictures, soon!

Howdy!

So, I didn't have a chance to blog beforehand but my Mom and I were able to take a road trip to Austin, TX to spend a day at QuiltCon on Friday. We really enjoyed checking out the show and vendors but to get the most out of it you would definitely want to spend the extra money on lectures/workshops. Next time!

It was fun to see so many quilts in person that I have seen on Flickr. These were just a few of my favorites. I'm SO sorry that I did not document the makers of each of these!

I loved how pretty this one was:

I think this one was from the Denyse Schmidt collection. Love her stuff!

Okay, this quilt was just plain amazing!

And the quilting was INSANE! I cannot describe how densely it was quilted.

This one was Mom's favorite.

I think this one was in the Michael Miller booth? gosh, I wish I could remember. I think it's really cool though.

And this one was just plain awesome! Love all the funky thrift fabrics.

Mom had never been to the state capital before so we stopped by to check it out.

Aside from waking up before the crack of dawn to drive down there, it was super fun and a nice little getaway!

Happy Love Day

We're not big Valentine's Day celebrators but I do think it's a good reminder that we need to make time to cherish our loved ones regularly.

Coincidentally, a new batch of baby chicks arrived today! And they could not be cuter!

We are {still} living with my Dad right now and he raises chickens for their eggs. It's so nice to have fresh organic eggs all the time!
{The search for a home continues, the real estate supply is super low right now which is frustrating and a test in patience but we are hopeful to find the right one soon! In the meantime, we are grateful to my Dad for letting us live with him and Jack is having a ball living in the "country".}

I have two pink baby quilts in progress at the moment.

Have a love-ly day!

Butterfly beauty

This little beauty is all finished up and ready to go to a family in our do. Good Stitches charity (our circle's is hospice). Once I got going, this quilt took no time at all to piece and quilt. The ladies of the Heal circle really did a great job whipping the blocks up!

Original tutorial from Film In The Fridge but I wanted the "butterflies" to be a little larger so I made a tutorial for these specifically.
I'm so happy with this one! Thanks again ladies!

Blocks

I hate when I loose things. I've spent two days looking and still cannot find my thimble! So, I just picked up a new cheapy one at Wal-Mart so that I can get that quilt (my do. Good Stitches quilt) bound and shipped off to our awesome leader Nicke!
And January just happens to be her month to design so I'll send these little beauties along too.

I'll be honest. When this scrappy trip-along craze started I thought it was cool but didn't see what all the fuss was about. Ah, now that I've made these, well, I can see why! They were super fun and easy to make and really did use up scraps! Plus there are so many gorgeous layout possibilities. This is one of my favorites.

Two more Farmer's Wife Sampler blocks done!
