That was me on Saturday, I admit it. I was trying out a paper pieced feather with some scraps and I just could not get it right! I thought I was using large enough pieces but after I would sew a seam the fabric would fall short of the area it needed to cover! (I may have even crumpled it all up - very childish I know)

I've only done paper piecing on a few simple things before so I'm not very experienced. It felt like I was wasting SO MUCH fabric. Is that right?
What a mess! LOL! although I'm still having a hard time laughing about it. I'm actually still pouting. I wanted these to be easy because they are such pretty little feathers.

have you tried the freezer paper method? it might help you get the shapes right and it doesn't waste as much fabric. here's a blog post with a bunch of links (the freezer paper links are towards the bottom): http://verykerryberry.blogspot.com/p/paper-piecing.html
Hello dearie. The trick to paper piecing us to not be afraid to waste fabric. My hubby remembers me yelling "maybe a meter will cover it!". Then he suggested I take a break....
It can be fun : )
Hi Emily, Last year I participated in Whims and Fancies Doctor who along and now love paper piecing . Caroline has a great little tutorial on how to make sure your fabric will fit . Here is the link http://trilliumdesign.blogspot.com.au/2013/05/doctorwhoalong-block-2-timelord.html. I had to read it over a couple of times but once I got it it really helped.
I've never really gotten into the paper piecing groove. I find it so tricky to keep everything straight in my head, especially working with angles like you would with a feather I am sure I would make the same mistake as far as fabric pieces. I also don't like the waste.
