Anybody else hate fusing interfacing on as much as I do??? I'm about to ditch the "damp press cloth" and just iron it on (being careful not to burn anything of course). Is that a bad idea? If you've ever made any of Amy Butler's bags then you know all her patterns use a ton of interfacing.

You know what I do sometimes? I start off with the fabric good side down, interfacing on top, use my iron to sort of fuse the corners (no pressing cloth) then I flip it over so the interfacing is underneath and I just iron onto the fabric side with steam. Only thing with this is that you want to make sure that none of the interfacing extends beyond the edges of the fabric because you'll now have it glue side up and it could get on your iron.

It takes for-ever. I just finished applying interfacing for a t-shirt quilt, and I said I am never doing this again. Costco just advertised a steam press for $149, and I mentioned it to my husband. As usual, I checked Craigslist first, and someone had just posted a "pro"-style consumer machine for $35! My husband just picked it up -- he said everything is working!!
I haven't done any bag making, but I am ready to make memory quilts out of all my children's baby clothes (all knits). So I'm excited to try it out!!

I seriously hate interfacing so much. I usually do what Heather suggested and kind of baste it onto the back with the iron and then flip it over and use steam. I haven't had any problems with it.
i hate interfacing too. i have done what you suggested but in my experience the bond isn't as good. now i lay an old sheet over the pieces, mist it with a spray bottle, then press. it doesn't save any time but it works well.
amy butler BELIEVES in interfacing! big time! i don't have any great tips for interfacing. i don't mind doing it, it is kinda soothing to me... warm iron...
