Native Quilt

Meet my new favorite quilt! The best name I could come up with for this quilt was Native. I started out wanting to make a Feather Bed Quilt with the Chicopee fabric line. Then I discovered how time consuming it was to make each feather (I'm not good with templates).

So, the idea evolved into this multi-component quilt that included feathers, some different arrows and patterns all with a low volume background.

It's funny but my main inspiration came from the carpet at Great Wolf Lodge.

Lot's of Denyse Schmidt fabrics in there!

I started out by making all the different components and then putting them together like a puzzle. It was pretty tricky and I really took my time with it.

This top left corner of the quilt is my favorite. I just love how it came together.

The back is nice and simple using just three fabrics: two Field Study prints and the feathers!

I could not be happier with how it came out!

Super cool Emily! I love how it has a very improv-y feel, but with a general theme. Love it.

AmaZING! I love everything about this. So very cool. I could handle this many feathers too but not a whole quilt. And, the background is pretty perfect too!

I couldn't imagine following a template for the feathers either... but I'd love to try them free pieced. Really lovely, low volume background. I love working in this painterly style.

This is beautiful! I made the Feather Bed quilt a few months ago and I love it. I was thinking of making a second one but this inspires me to be more improvisational with it. Fantastic work!

I like that quilt. I like the idea of trying out blocks but not making a whole quilt each time. Instead put together a mix quilt. I like that.

Wow! I can see why you call this your new favourite. It is awesome!!!

This is one of the most beautiful quilts I have ever seen! I had a go at making the feather blocks too, and while I love them, I seemed to have such a lot of fabric wastage. Such a beautiful use here of those blocks.

Hi Emily, I have come back to this quilt at least fifty times and it is so beautiful and meaningful. Before I found your blog, I thought that you were a native American Indian and this quilt had special deep meanings in your life. I loved it. You are by far a natural artist with a great imagination. You should make a pattern for me to purchase, as I am now your number one fan and would love to make one for myself instead of everyone else. . Be proud of yourself, it's great!
