Vintage Style Bowtie Quilt

Hey guys! It's Monday, hope you're week is off to a great start!

I've got some very mediocre, boring brick wall photos of a really GORGEOUS quilt! I do want to step up my photography skills but I always end up taking the quick and easy way out by snapping the same old pics.

This quilt I love! I was totally inspired by this vintage bowtie quilt I saw on Pinterest.

Denyse Schmidt fabrics are so perfect in a quilt like this. Modern but vintage all at the same time. I made 7" bowtie blocks using mostly Hadley fabrics with a few solids and Katie Jump Rope prints mixed in.

Even the backing is a Denyse Schmidt fabric from JoAnn's.

This quilt really makes me smile!

12-Patch Quilt

Happy Friday before Christmas!!!
I'm working on one last gift item that I'll show you in a few days. How about you? all ready or still scrambling? I'm usually scrambling with last minute gift making at this point but this year I took it easy and am only making one thing.

Anyway, I have a super cute finish to show.

I was completely inspired by this little mini quilt I saw on Flickr. These blocks are perfect for digging into those scraps! And they are SUPER quick to boot. Love them, I could totally make another quilts worth of these blocks.

For the back I finally used up a yard of Denyse Schmidt plaid I'd been saving for a long time.

The finished size of this quilt came out to about 39"x52".

this week

Well I seem to be in a bit of a blogging slump. Sewing is happening though!
I've got some cell phone pics of what I've been working on this week.

Mr. Scotty Dog came together surprisingly quick! A birthday gift for my niece. Free pattern from Denyse Schmidt.


After some deliberation and calculations I've decided to make both a Vintage Nine-Patch quilt and a Bowtie quilt with my Hadley fabrics. I'm going to make both quilts a smallish lap size and with a few additional fabrics it should be no problem.
These vintage nine patch blocks are small for me (6" finshed) and I was hoping there was going to be some quick method of sewing them up but no such luck. These could be time consuming but I think the result will be worth it.

I'm going with the 7" finished blocks for the bowties. These are pretty fun to make!


And today I'm going to finish the back and baste up this Double Plus quilt for a customer. The day is slipping by so I'd better hop to it!

dreaming of my next quilt....

Look at this bundle of goodness! Last week my mom took me birthday shopping and I came home with these FQs from Denyse Schmidt's Hadley collection.

I really want to make a vintage style quilt with these and I've been mulling over pattern options.
A postage stamp quilt like this one or this one?
This Vintage Nine Patch pattern maybe?
Or a truly vintage bow-tie pattern like this one?

What do you all think?

Croquet 16-Patch

Happy Friday!
We'll start the parade of finished quilts off with this simple 16-Patch quilt made with fabrics from the Croquet collection by Denyse Schmidt.

I used this basic tutorial for the 16-patch blocks but modified it to make 12" finished blocks by cutting the strips 3.5" wide instead of 4". I bought 8 third yards and added in a 2 other DS prints from my stash to make 20 blocks. Quarter yards would have been perfect. You could get 2 blocks from each quarter yard with just a little left over fabric. It's okay, the extras were great for the backing.

I love the vintagey feel this quilt has. My pictures don't do it justice at all. The colors of this fabric collection are fun, retro and fresh feeling.

I fell in love with the 16-patch after seeing this one and this one. Both so pretty!

the pillow behind the quilt

So, about 3 or 4 weeks ago, I was contemplating ideas for another pillow for our couch. I knew I wanted a plus to be in the center so I got onto the Threadbias Design Tool (love that thing!) and came up with a double plus design. As I was drawing it out I thought, this would make an awesome quilt.

So, that's how my Double Plus Quilt came to be!
I went with a Denyse Schmidt fabric (from Chicopee) for the center plus and Essex Linen in Black and Flax for the backgrounds.

It came out exactly how I envisioned it!!! The Essex linens really give it almost a vintage army/wool blanket feel. Love it!

Okay, I promise I won't talk any more about double pluses! :)

Hope Valley Quilt

Yay! It feels so good to get things FINISHED! I made the quilt top for this one several months ago but had to set it aside for other priorities. I'm smitten with this quilt, it has a vintage feel to it but is fresh and modern at the same time.

I used Ashley's tutorial to make the blocks using Denyse Schmidt's Hope Valley fabrics.
