a special birthday gift

My little niece just turned 1 year old last week and I wanted to make something special for her. Her mom has a few owl accessories in her room and I thought this would be a nice addition.I got the idea from Homemade by Jill when she copied it out of the Pottery Barn catalog. I'm not very good a drawing up shapes and designs freehand so I'm not totally happy with the proportions but hey, I doubt it will bother anyone else. Sorry for the bad picture, I finished stuffing it about an hour before the party so I was in a real rush!

You know what I'm dreaming of knitting right now? This shrug. I just love it and it looks perfect for fall!

In the mood for something summery yesterday, I went to Smitten Kitchen and found this: zucchini and ricotta galette.

This was the most flaky and delicious crust I have ever made or eaten! It takes a bit of planning ahead but ooh is it worth it!
